Missing out on food with migraine!

Migraines are horribly debilitating headaches that can make life miserable for sufferers. And, on top of the suffering comes the list of foods that sufferers often need to miss out from their diets as they are believed to be possible food triggers for migraine headaches.

Food triggers of migraine headaches areusually individual and specific to each migraine sufferer. What triggers or aggravates migraines for one person may be different for another person. Some foods thought to aggravate or trigger migraine symptoms are chocolate, caffeine, citrus fruit, cheese and alcohol. It can be the foods containing certain amino acids which provoke migraines. However migraine sufferers do not all follow the same rules! People with intolerances or food allergies may get migraines if they eat foods that they are either intolerant or allergic to. Those of us with food intolerances or allergies do not necessarily share the same intolerances! So, when headaches occur, people can miss out both on enjoyment of life and on certain food!

However, to alleviate and help manage migraine symptoms, there are many foods to be enjoyed and included as a way to help combat painful migraines!

Magnesium –rich food can be helpful for migraine sufferers, particularly those that occur around the time of women’s menstrual cycles.

It is important to eat the food that will keep blood sugar levels steady as a drop in blood sugar levels may lead to migraines.

Food to ease migraine:

  • Eat regular and frequent light meals.
  • Oily fish, like salmon and mackerel, are good due to their natural anti- inflammatory properties.
  • For those suffering nausea, ginger tea may help.
  • Whole grains, nuts, dried fruit, quinoa, sweet potatoes, sunflower seeds, and other magnesium- rich food help tackle migraines.

It is extremely important not to miss out food from your diet that is beneficial for you. The triggers and causes for migraines will differ in people. Also, if migraine sufferers do need to avoid certain food, it is crucial that the nutrients from missed out food are replaced by eating food more suited to the individual’s body. At Nutripanda, allergies and food intolerances can be tested and a bespoke diet created to suit your individual, health-enhancing needs. Miss out the migraines and not the food!
