Thyroid Test

Why should you have a thyroid test?

Thyroid is a gland that produces essential hormones to regulate the body's metabolic rate and the growth and development of your cells. Thyroid hormones are important in controlling heart, muscle function, brain development, bone maintenance and so much more.

According to NICE (National Institute and Care Excellence) about 15% of the UK population have clinically detectable goitres or thyroid nodules. Nearly 2% of the UK population are suffering from thyroid hormone deficiency and more than 5% of those are over 60.

Women are 5 -10 times more likely to be affected than men. Cardiovascular disease and an increase in cardiovascular risk factors, including high level of bad cholesterol (LDL-C) are only a few of the clinical long-term consequences of hypothyroidism. Palpitations and twitching, nervousness, anxiety and irritability, mood swings, sleep problems, chronic fatigue and weakness are a few issues you might encounter if your thyroid is producing too much of those hormones creating hyperthyroidism.

Prevention is essential; therefore, we offer blood screening to assess all the keys markers needed to evaluate the functionality of your thyroid.

As the balance of those thyroid hormones are necessary for the normal functionality of your body, we included some of the markers of thyroid test in:
