Considering Coconut Oil?

With all the attention coconut oil has been receiving it seems like coconut oil is either a trend soon to be replaced or too good to be true.

The benefits of coconut oil are far reaching: whitening your teeth, hydrating your skin and hair, and helping prevent heart disease.

So why should you consider replacing olive oil and butter with a saturated fat such as coconut oil?

Coconut oil contains lauric acid which the body converts into monolaurin so it can fight off viruses, fungi, and bacteria. Additionally, coconut oil can increase the good cholesterol in your blood, thus protecting the cardiovascular system.

Its medium-chain fatty acid increases your body’s metabolism and improves thyroid function.

Coconut oil has a longer shelf life than olive oil. Unrefined and purified will last indefinitely whereas refined will go rancid within 18 months. It also has a higher tolerance to heat than olive oil making it better for dishes such as stir fry.
