If you missed Gregorio’s informative talk last week about how to Fight the Winter Blues by choosing the right food then here are a couple of our favourite recipes from it.


Energy balls are the perfect snack as they are full of healthy fats, protein and fibre. Easy to make and to store, you can enjoy them as an alternative go-to snack to biscuits which can deplete you.


One recipe contains no nuts and they are sugar free, dairy and egg free and can be gluten free too. They require no baking so cost effective too.

SANTA MARIA Energy Balls – Makes 25 balls


Ingredients:

200g pitted dates

130g dried cranberries

150g ground almonds

250g almond butter

2 tbsps grated fresh ginger root

2 tbsps grated fresh turmeric root

A dust of milled flaxseeds

Method:

Soak the dates and cranberries in boiling water for 30 mins.

When ready, mix all the ingredients in a bowl and set aside for 10 minutes.

Make into balls and roll each one in milled flaxseeds and let them set in the fridge overnight.

Store them in the fridge.


MA DAI Energy Balls - Makes 25 balls


Ingredients:

200g pitted dates

150g chopped apples

80g rolled oats

2 tbsps ground cinnamon

2 tbsps raw cocoa powder


Method:

Soak the dates and the apples in boiling water for 30 mins.

When ready, mix all the ingredients in a bowl and set aside for 10 minutes.

Make into balls and roll each one in cocoa and let them set in the fridge overnight.

Store them in the fridge.
